accomplished video effects and games artist discusses how to use "layered rigging" to create both simple and advanced character rigs.
The rig is the "user interface" to your character - it must be clear and precise to allow as much control as possible when animating your character.
The session begins by demonstrating technical character rigging workflow and introduces skeletal design for advanced skinning deformations.
It continues with topics such as advanced controllers, wires, expressions, scripts and embedded procedural animation.
It finishes with skinning and morphing of facial expressions, the use of proxy geometry, and muscle-based deformation system.

As luck would have it, Nick Walker, the head of the Layout Department on the Shrek series stayed late at work after finishing his work on Shrek the Third to talk to us about his job and the role of Layout in animated films.

PIXAR"S NEXT MOVIE

Pixar 's NEW Senior Citizen FILM!!!!!!
After focusing on a French rat this summer, and a lovable robot named Wall*E in 2008, the folks at Pixar will give us a movie about a 70-year-old man who fights various animals and villains in 2009.

Time magazine reveals that the studio’s follow-up to next year’s Wall*E will be Up, which will be directed by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.) and co-director Bob Petersen (Finding Nemo writer) and will be released on June 12, 2009
